What we do

Four lines of work, kept inside one practice and one telephone.

A small Sussex firm with the depth of a high-street one. Residential conveyancing is the spine; wills, LPAs and probate are the private-client work that grew naturally alongside it; the criminal-litigation line opens in 2026 on the back of Sarah's 2025 Solicitor-Advocate qualification. Every matter is taken by the same solicitor from first call to engagement letter.

Residential conveyancing

Sales, purchases, transfers of equity, re-mortgages and shared-ownership work across East Sussex. Lewes, Uckfield, Brighton, Eastbourne, Heathfield, Crowborough, Forest Row and the Weald. Freehold houses and leasehold flats. Same-solicitor throughout, four-hour callback guarantee, correspondence answered the day it arrives. The desk Sarah has run continuously since 2002.

Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney

Single wills and mirror wills, life-interest and discretionary trusts where the family circumstance calls for them, Property and Financial Affairs LPAs, Health and Welfare LPAs. Particular focus on elderly clients and business owners. Drafted and witnessed at the client's home, in the Uckfield office, in the Lewes office, or by video where access is the bigger constraint.

Probate and estate administration

Grants of probate where there is a will, letters of administration where there is none, full estate administration through to distribution, deeds of variation where the beneficiaries want to redirect, IHT400 returns for non-excepted estates. The same solicitor from the engagement letter to the final account. The line that grew naturally out of the will-writing practice.

Criminal litigation and Crown Court advocacy

Sarah qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in Criminal Litigation in 2025 and the firm is opening this practice in 2026. Magistrates' Court and Crown Court representation, summary and either-way offences, plea-in-mitigation and trial work. Higher Courts (Criminal) rights of audience under the SRA-conferred qualification.

The same-solicitor promise · how the practice is structured

The named solicitor on your engagement letter is the named solicitor on your completion call.

The four-hour callback guarantee, the same-day correspondence promise, and the same-solicitor commitment are not three separate marketing lines. They are one structural fact: Morgan Kelly Solicitors Limited is a one-solicitor regulated practice. The SRA register confirms Sarah Morgan-Kelly (SRA 332524) as the sole regulated solicitor on the firm. Sarah opens every file personally, runs every matter, and signs off every completion statement.

Most Sussex conveyancing desks route the file through a paralegal team and the named partner is the supervising signature on the engagement letter, not the working solicitor on the day. With Morgan Kelly the named solicitor on the engagement letter is the same name that returns the missed call by four o’clock, drafts the contract, signs the completion statement and hands the keys over. The promise is staffed for, not advertised.

  • Four-hour callback. Voicemails are monitored hourly across the working day. The timer starts when the message lands, not when it is read.
  • Same-day correspondence. Every email and every letter answered the day it arrives, not "within five working days". The case-management system runs on one extension across Lewes and Uckfield so no inbound message lands in someone else’s inbox.
  • Same solicitor throughout. The structural reason the first two promises are credible. Sarah is the file-opener, the file-runner and the file-closer on every matter.

Eighteen years in Sussex

December 2008, Sarah opens the practice in Lewes.

The firm was founded in December 2008 by Sarah Morgan-Kelly as Sarah Edmunds Legal, four years after she qualified as a solicitor and six years into a specialist residential-conveyancing career. The Lewes desk grew through the next seven years on referral work alone.

In 2015 the practice incorporated as a limited company on 26 March and renamed to Morgan Kelly Solicitors Limited on 13 August (Morgan being Sarah's maiden name, Kelly her married name). The Solicitors Regulation Authority authorised the firm as a recognised body on 30 September 2015 under SRA 624343. The Castleworks office on Westgate Street became the main client-meeting premises through the same period, with Uckfield taking the registered-office and wills work.

In 2025 Sarah qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in Criminal Litigation with Higher Courts (Criminal) rights of audience, broadening the firm beyond property and private-client into Crown Court representation. The criminal-litigation desk opens in 2026.

The principals

Two names, two offices, one extension.

Morgan Kelly is built around one regulated solicitor and one senior support, not a paralegal team behind a partner masthead. The same two names answer the call, run the file and sign off the matter.

The Lewes office · Castleworks

In the Lewes Castle conservation area, at the foot of Westgate Street.

Castleworks sits at the south end of Westgate Street, in the eleventh-century Lewes Castle conservation area between the medieval West Gate (pulled down in 1777, the bastion of which survives under the floor of the Freemasons' Hall at 148 High Street) and William de Warenne's Norman keep two minutes' walk north up Castle Gate. The remains of the medieval town wall (Historic England list entry 1353121) line the eastern side of the street.

Frequently asked

Five questions we hear most at reception.

Will I get the same solicitor throughout my matter?

Yes. Sarah Morgan-Kelly is the sole regulated solicitor on the SRA register for the firm (SRA 332524) and opens every file personally, runs every matter, and signs off every completion statement. The same-solicitor promise is the structural reason the practice is staffed the way it is, not a tagline. Most Sussex conveyancing desks route the file through a paralegal team; with Morgan Kelly the named solicitor on the engagement letter is the named solicitor on the completion call.

How quickly will you call me back?

Within four hours of the message being left, every working day. Correspondence answered the same day it arrives, not "within five working days". Voicemails monitored hourly so the four-hour timer starts when the message lands, not when it is read. The promise is what the firm is structured for; the case-management system runs on one extension across Lewes and Uckfield so the client is never told "let me transfer you to the other office".

Where do we meet, Castleworks in Lewes or Uckfield?

Either. Castleworks on Westgate Street in Lewes, BN7 1YR, is the main client-meeting premises and the office most conveyancing clients come into. The Uckfield office at 91a High Street, TN22 1RJ, is the registered office and the centre of the wills, LPA and probate practice. Home visits and video appointments are available when those make sense, particularly for elderly clients and clients whose access to either town is the constraint.

How long has Morgan Kelly been trading in Sussex?

18 years this December. The firm opened in Lewes in December 2008 as Sarah Edmunds Legal, incorporated as a limited company on 26 March 2015, and renamed to Morgan Kelly Solicitors Limited on 13 August 2015 (Morgan being Sarah's maiden name and Kelly her married name). The firm has practised continuously in East Sussex throughout, from the original Lewes desk to the present Castleworks-and-Uckfield two-office structure.

Are you regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority?

Yes. Morgan Kelly Solicitors Limited is a recognised body under SRA number 624343, authorised on 30 September 2015. Sarah Betty Morgan-Kelly is the named regulated solicitor under SRA 332524, qualified December 2004. The firm is a private limited company registered in England and Wales under Companies House number 09511704, registered office 91a High Street, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 1RJ.
